Part 2 of our Spirent Test Center Series will cover what I find to be the most common use cases for configuring the Spirent Test Center for proof of concept type labs for OSPF, BGP and also for traffic that will run between the OSPF and BGP advertised prefixes. In the overall series we will call this one, “Example 1“.
- Example 1:
- OSPF
- BGP
- Traffic Between OSPF and BGP Advertised Prefixes
Example 1: OSPF & BGP
We will do this example in 3 parts. First – get the OSPF up between R1 and the Spirent Test Center and advertise prefixes. 2nd – get BGP up between R2 and the Spirent Test Center and advertise prefixes. Finally we will create traffic between an OSPF advertised prefix and a BGP advertised prefix.
Spoilers
- For OSPF – click “None” for Topology Type.
- For BGP – be aware of scalability mode you are in.
- For Traffic between advertised prefixes – I like creating a smaller set of host (/32) prefixes for the traffic and using the bulk prefixes for background or churn.

- Fish explains her preferred way of doing this (6:43-8:27)
- On STC configure OSPF to advertise a host prefix (8:28-9:30)
- Verify, on R1, that this new prefix is there (9:31-10:08)
- On STC configure BGP to advertise a host prefix (10:09-10:57)
- Verify, on R2, that this new prefix is there (10:58-11:18)
- Fish explains a little more about this preferred way of doing this (11:19-12:25)
- Create a stream between the two /32 advertised host prefixes (12:26-14:16)
